Born in Beijing, China, Jie developed a deep passion for playing the cello and the meticulous craft of handmade objects from an early age. In 2001, he found a way to merge these interests, enrolling in the prestigious Violin Making Department at the Central Conservatory of Music, where he earned an entrance scholarship.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Jie sought to further hone his skills by moving to Cremona, Italy, the heartland of Lutherie/ Violin makers, where he attended the renowned International School of Violin Making in Cremona. Over four years, he dedicated the first two to refining his making techniques, while the latter half of his studies was spent mastering the art of antique violin restoration and authentication, expanding his expertise and deepening his connection to the instrument’s historical legacy.
Upon graduating in 2009, Yujie returned to Beijing to establish his violin-making studio, embarking on an independent journey of crafting instruments with his distinctive voice. Throughout these years, he has participated in numerous prestigious international violin-making competitions, achieving remarkable success. That same year, he founded the Bottega degli Amici/ Best Friend Atliere, with the vision of introducing the works of exceptional European luthiers to the Chinese market.
In 2020, carrying over two decades of craftsmanship, Jie embraced a new chapter, emigrating to Melbourne, Australia. Here, in the peaceful and inspiring surroundings, he continues his lifelong dedication to the art of violin making.
